CNN Immersive IoT Voice Testing Installation
Role:
UX Designer & Project Lead

Designing for voice interactions requires innovation, and The Echosphere was my answer to that challenge. Tasked with prototyping CNN’s Amazon Alexa app, I built my own Alexa skill to understand voice platforms deeply and designed a life-size Amazon Echo installation to create a natural, immersive testing environment. This allowed users to interact with the app while we discreetly observed and gathered insights, ensuring privacy and authenticity.
Through this project, I navigated complex challenges like scoping, resource pitching, and iterative user testing, balancing technical constraints with user needs. The result was a user-centric, functional prototype and a scalable testing framework for future voice projects. This work not only highlighted the power of inventive prototyping but also deepened my expertise in designing for emerging technologies.
Yahoo Mail Settings hadn’t been updated in over a decade, resulting in a complex and outdated experience. I led a comprehensive redesign and refactoring of the information architecture to simplify the system.
